And recite to them the news of Abraham, 69 When he asked his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They said: "We worship idols, and we remain constantly in attendance on them." 71 He asked, "Do they hear you when you call to them? 72 "Or do they benefit you or do they harm (you)?" 73 They said: "Nay, but we found our fathers doing thus (what we do)." 74 He said: "Do ye then see whom ye have been worshipping,- 75 Ye and your fathers of old? 76 Surely they are enemies to me, but not (so) the Lord of the worlds; 77 who created me. It is He who guides me; 78 It is He who gives me food and drink 79 And when I sicken, then He healeth me. 80 And who will cause me to die and then bring me to life 81 Who, I hope, will forgive me my sins on the Day of Judgement." 82 "O my Sustainer! Endow me with the ability to judge [between right and wrong,] and make me one with the righteous, 83 and grant me the power to convey the truth unto those who will come after me, 84 and place me among those who shall inherit the garden of bliss! 85 "Forgive my father, for that he is among those astray; 86 Do not betray me 87 the Day when wealth and sons will be of no avail, 88 Except him who comes to Allah with a heart free (from evil). 89 "To the righteous, the Garden will be brought near, 90 And hell will appear plainly to the erring. 91 And it shall be said to them: Where are those that you used to worship; 92 instead of God? Can these [things and beings] be of any help to you or to themselves?" 93 So they will be overturned into Hellfire, they and the deviators 94 And the soldiers of Iblees, all together. 95 And they will say, when they are quarrelling therein: 96 "We were clearly misguided 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of all Being. 98 "'And our seducers were only those who were steeped in guilt. 99 and we have no intercessors now, 100 “Nor a caring friend.” 101 But if we could but once return, we would be of the believers. 102 Verily! In this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 103 Verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 104
