And recite to them the news of Abraham, 69 when he said to his father and his people, 'What do you serve?' 70 They replied, "We worship idols and shall continue to worship them". 71 He asked: "Do they hear you when you call them 72 'Can they benefit you or harm you' 73 They said: "Nay, but we found our fathers doing thus (what we do)." 74 He said, 'And have you considered what you have been serving, 75 you and your fathers, the elders? 76 They are an enemy to me, except the Lord of all Being 77 He created me and He will guide me. 78 and is the One who gives me to eat and to drink, 79 And when I sicken, then He healeth me. 80 And He Who will cause me to die, then give me life; 81 It is He whom I expect to forgive my sins on the Day of Judgment. 82 My Lord! Vouchsafe me wisdom and unite me to the righteous. 83 And give unto me a good report in later generations. 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Pleasure. 85 And forgive my father. Indeed, he has been of those astray. 86 and disgrace me not on the Day when people will be raised to life, 87 The Day whereon will profit neither substance nor sons. 88 Unless it be he, who shall bring unto Allah a whole heart, 89 And Paradise shall be brought forward for the godfearing, 90 And Hell is brought near to the perverse' 91 And it will be said to them, "Where are those you used to worship 92 Other than Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?" 93 Then they will be thrown headlong into Hell, both they and the misguided ones, 94 and the hosts of Iblis, all together. 95 "They will say there in their mutual bickerings: 96 "By God, we were plainly in error 97 When we made you equal with the Lord of the Worlds. 98 "'And our seducers were only those who were steeped in guilt. 99 Now we have no intercessors, 100 "'Nor a single friend to feel (for us). 101 Would that we could have a chance to live again so that we might become believers." 102 There is certainly a sign in that, but most of them would not believe: 103 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 104
