The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
And by the sun and its brightness; 1 by the moon, which follows it, 2 By the day when it glorifieth it. 3 And the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 By the heaven and That which built it 5 by the earth and Who spread it, 6 And by oath of the soul and by oath of Him Who made it proper. 7 and inspired it to lewdness and godfearing! 8 those who purify their souls will certainly have everlasting happiness 9 and truly lost is he who buries it [in darkness]. 10 Thamood cried lies in their insolence 11 when the most wretched of them uprose, 12 the Messenger of Allah said to them: '(This is) the shecamel of Allah, let her drink' 13 In response they belied him, and hamstrung the she camel – so Allah put ruin over them because of their sins and flattened their dwellings. 14 God is not afraid of the result of what He had decreed. 15
