(The tribe of) A'ad denied the messengers (of Allah). 123 when their brother Hud said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 124 I am a trustworthy Messengers sent to you. 125 So fear God and listen to me. 126 And I do not ask you any reward for it; surely my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds 127 Build ye on every high place a monument for vain delight? 128 And take for yourselves palaces and fortresses that you might abide eternally? 129 And whenever you apply force become tyrannical. 130 So fear God, and obey me; 131 Keep your duty toward Him Who hath aided you with (the good things) that ye know, 132 "Freely has He bestowed on you cattle and sons,- 133 gardens, and springs. 134 indeed, I fear for you the torment of an awful day." 135 They replied: "It is all the same for us whether you admonish us or not. 136 That is nothing but a habit of the ancients, 137 And we are not to be punished." 138 So they rejected him, and We destroyed them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. 139 Yet surely your Lord is mighty and merciful. 140
