The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). 1 Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived; 2 He does not speak out of his own desires. 3 It is but a divine revelation, which is revealed to him. 4 Taught to him by one intense in strength - 5 One strong of make. Then he stood straight. 6 While he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] was in the highest part of the horizon, 7 Then he drew near, then he bowed 8 Till he was (distant) two bows' length or even nearer, 9 And He revealed unto His slave that which He revealed. 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 will you, then, contend with him as to what he saw? 12 And indeed he did see the Spectacle again. 13 at the Lote Tree (Sidrat tree) of the ending 14 Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, 15 When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. 16 his eyes did not swerve, nor did they stray 17 Indeed he saw some of the greatest signs of His Lord. 18 HAVE YOU, then, ever considered [what you are worshipping in] Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, 19 And Manat (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third? 20 Is the male for you and for Him the female? 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 They are naught but names yourselves have named, and your fathers; God has sent down no authority touching them. They follow only surmise, and what the souls desire; and yet guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Can ever man get what he desires? 24 despite the fact that [both] the life to come and this present [one] belong to God [alone]? 25
