The 'Aad belied the sent ones. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 124 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 125 be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me! 126 I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 127 Build ye on every high place a monument for vain delight? 128 and erect huge palaces as though you will live for ever, 129 And will you [always,] whenever you lay hand [on others,] lay hand [on them] cruelly, without any restraint? 130 “Therefore fear Allah, and obey me.” 131 Have fear of the One who has bestowed upon you all that you know. 132 He has given you flocks and sons, 133 and gardens, and springs -- 134 Lo! I fear for you the retribution of an awful day. 135 They replied: "It is all the same for us whether you admonish us or not. 136 This is naught but a custom of the ancients; 137 They rejected him and We destroyed them. 138 And so they gave him the lie: and thereupon We destroyed them. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 139 And indeed your Lord only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
