Ad gave the lie to the apostles. 123 When their brother Hud said unto them: Will ye not ward off (evil)? 124 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 125 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 126 I do not ask for any payment for my preaching. I shall receive my reward from the Lord of the Universe. 127 What, you build a monument on every hill merely for fun 128 and make for yourselves mighty castles, [hoping] that you might become immortal? 129 And when you lay hands (on men) you lay hands (like) tyrants; 130 Have fear of God and obey me. 131 "And keep your duty to Him, fear Him Who has aided you with all (good things) that you know. 132 "Freely has He bestowed on you cattle and sons,- 133 And gardens and springs. 134 Surely I fear for you the chastisement of a grievous day 135 They replied: 'It is the same to us whether you admonish or whether you are not one of the admonishers. 136 This is not but the custom of the former peoples, 137 "And we are not going to be punished." 138 And they denied him, so We destroyed them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 139 And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 140
