The people of 'Ad accused the messengers of lies. 123 When their brother Hood said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 124 I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 125 So fear God and listen to me. 126 And I ask of you no hire therefor: my hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 127 Do you build monuments on every high place in vanity, 128 And you make strong fortresses that perhaps you may 129 And whenever you apply force become tyrannical. 130 "Now fear Allah, and obey me. 131 Keep your duty toward Him Who hath aided you with (the good things) that ye know, 132 “He aided you with cattle and sons.” 133 And gardens and springs. 134 "Verily, I fear for you the torment of a Great Day." 135 They said, "Whether you preach to us or not, 136 This has been happening all along. 137 And we are not going to be tormented. 138 And so they gave him the lie: and thereupon We destroyed them. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 139 And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 140
