The Ad gave the lie to the Messengers. 123 Their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear God? 124 I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 125 be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me! 126 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds. 127 Do you construct on every elevation a sign, amusing yourselves, 128 "And do you get for yourselves palaces (fine buildings) as if you will live therein for ever. 129 And when ye seize, ye seize like unto tyrants. 130 So guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me 131 Have fear of the One who has bestowed upon you all that you know. 132 He has given you abundance of cattle and children 133 And gardens and springs. 134 Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a terrible day." 135 They said, “It is the same for us, whether you advise us or not be of the preachers.” 136 That is nothing but a habit of the ancients, 137 and we shall not be chastised.' 138 So they belied him, so We destroyed them. Surely, in that there is a sign; yet most of them do not believe. 139 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 140
