Then the people of Lot rejected the messengers. 160 When their brother Lot said to them, "Will you not fear God? 161 "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust. 162 So fear Allah, and obey me. 163 I seek of you no reward. My reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 164 What, do you come to male beings, 165 keeping yourselves aloof from all the [lawful] spouses whom your Sustainer has created for you? Nay, but you are people who transgress all bounds of what is right!" 166 They said, "Lot, if you do not give up preaching, you will certainly be expelled (from this town)". 167 He said, 'Truly I am a detester of what you do. 168 “My Lord, rescue me and my family from their deeds.” 169 So We delivered him and his family,- all 170 except for an old woman who stayed behind, 171 Then We utterly destroyed the others. 172 And We showered a rain upon them; so what a wretched rain for those who were warned! 173 Surely in this there is a sign: but most of them would not believe: 174 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 175

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
