Lot's nation, belied their Messengers. 160 Recall, when their brother Lot said to them: "Have you no fear? 161 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 162 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 163 And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 164 "Must you, of all people, [lustfully] approach men, 165 keeping yourselves aloof from all the [lawful] spouses whom your Sustainer has created for you? Nay, but you are people who transgress all bounds of what is right!" 166 They said, "Lot, if you do not give up preaching, you will certainly be expelled (from this town)". 167 [Lot] exclaimed: "Behold, I am one of those who utterly abhor your doings!" 168 My Lord! deliver me and my followers from what they do. 169 We therefore rescued him and his entire family. 170 except an old woman who stayed behind, 171 Thereafter, We utterly destroyed the rest, 172 And We rained down upon them a rain, and evil was the rain on those warned. 173 Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 174 Your Lord, He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 175

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
