The people of Lut gave the lie to the apostles. 160 When their brother Lot said to them, "Will you not fear God? 161 "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust. 162 So fear God and listen to me. 163 And I ask of you no hire therefor; my hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 164 Do you approach males among the worlds 165 instead of your wives, whom your Lord has created specially for you? You are a transgressing people." 166 They said: if thou desistest not, O Lut! thou shalt surely be of those driven forth. 167 He said, "I am one of those who abhors your ways. 168 'My Lord, save me and my people from that they are doing' 169 So We saved him and his family, all, 170 except an old woman who remained behind. 171 and then We utterly destroyed the others, 172 and rained down upon them a rain [of destruction]: and dire is such rain upon all who let themselves be warned [to no avail]! 173 In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 174 And indeed, your Lord - He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 175
