[AND] the dwellers of the wooded dales [of Madyan] gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 176 When Shu'aib said to them: "Will you not take heed? 177 I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 178 So fear Allah and obey me. 179 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 180 ۞ "Give just measure, and cause no loss (to others by fraud). 181 "And weigh with scales true and upright. 182 do not defraud people of what is rightfully theirs; and do not spread corruption in the land. 183 Fear Him who created you, and the generations of the ancients.' 184 They replied, "You are bewitched. 185 for thou art nothing but a mortal like ourselves! And behold, we think that thou art a consummate liar! 186 Then make fragments of the heaven fall upon us, if thou art of the truthful. 187 (Shu'aib) said: "My Lord knows well what you are doing." 188 But they rejected him. Then the punishment of a day of overshadowing gloom seized them, and that was the Penalty of a Great Day. 189 Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 190 Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 191
