And indeed We sent to Thamud their brother Salih (Saleh), saying: "Worship Allah (Alone and none else). Then look! They became two parties (believers and disbelievers) quarreling with each other." 45 (Saleh) said: "O people, why do you wish to hasten evil rather than good? Why not ask for God's forgiveness? You may well be forgiven." 46 They said: We have met with ill luck on account of you and on account of those with you. He said: The cause of your evil fortune is with Allah; nay, you are a people who are tried. 47 And there were nine of a group in the city, who spread corruption in the land and rectified not. 48 They said: swear by God one to another that we shall surely fall upon him and his household by night and thereafter we shall surely say unto his heir; we witnessed not the destruction of his household, and verily we are truthtellers. 49 They hatched up the plot; We also planned without their knowledge. 50 and behold, how was the end of their device! For We destroyed them and their people all together. 51 So these their habitations lie deserted now because of their iniquities. Verily there is a sign in this for those who understand. 52 And We saved those who believed, and used to fear Allah, and keep their duty to Him. 53 Lot asked his people, "Do you understandably commit indecency? 54 Would ye really approach men in your lusts rather than women? Nay, ye are a people (grossly) ignorant! 55 ۞ His people had no answer except saying: "Expel the family of Lot from your city. They are a people who would (rather) be pure!" 56 Then We saved him and his household save his wife; We destined her to be of those who stayed behind. 57 We sent to them a terrible rainstorm. How horrible was the rain for the people who had already received warning. 58
