۞ Gather all the wicked together and their comrades, and those they had worshipped 22 Other than God," (the angels will be told), "then show them the way to Hell, 23 And halt them so that they may be questioned. 24 "What is the matter with you that you do not help each other?" 25 Nay, but that Day they shall surrender, 26 but [since it will be too late,] they will turn upon one another, demanding of each other [to relieve them of the burden of their past sins]. 27 They will say: "It was ye who used to come to us from the right hand (of power and authority)!" 28 They shall say: Nay, you (yourselves) were not believers; 29 we had no power over you; but you yourselves were a rebellious people. 30 So on us hath been justified the sentence of our Lord: verily we are to taste. 31 For we had led you astray. In fact we ourselves were astray." 32 So they shall on that day be sharers in the chastisement one with another. 33 This is how We deal with the criminals. 34 Truly, when it was said to them: La ilaha ill-Allah "(none has the right to be worshipped but Allah)," they puffed themselves up with pride (i.e. denied it). 35 And said: Shall we forsake our gods for a mad poet? 36 'No indeed; but he brought the truth, and confirmed the Envoys. 37 “You surely have to taste the painful punishment.” 38 And ye shall be required not except for that which ye have been doing; 39 Not so, however, God's true servants: 40 For them is a Sustenance determined, 41 fruits. And they are receivers of generosity 42 in the Gardens of Bliss. 43 Facing one another on thrones, 44 A cup will be passed round among them [with a drink] from unsullied springs, 45 White, delicious for the drinkers. 46 there is neither sickness in it, nor intoxication. 47 And with them will be mates of modest gaze, most beautiful of eye, 48 (Pure) as they were hidden eggs (of the ostrich). 49 Then some of them will turn to others, and will ask each other. 50 One of them will say, "I had a companion who asked me, 51 who used to say: -- Are you also one of those who confirm the Truth (of life after death)? 52 ‘That when we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, that we will either be rewarded or punished?’ 53 (A voice) said: "Would ye like to look down?" 54 He looked down and saw (his friend) in the midst of Hell. 55 He says, 'By God, wellnigh thou didst destroy me; 56 If not for the favor of my Lord, I would have been of those brought in [to Hell]. 57 So, are we not going to die, 58 “Except our earlier death, and nor will we be punished?” 59 Lo! this is the supreme triumph. 60 For the like of this let the workers work. 61 Is this not a better reward than the tree of Zaqqum 62 We have made this tree a trial for the wrong-doers. 63 Verily it is a tree that springeth forth in the bottom of Flaming Fire. 64 Its spathes are like the heads of satans. 65 They will eat from it and fill their bellies with it; 66 Then most surely they shall have after it to drink of a mixture prepared in boiling water. 67 Then to Hell they will surely be returned. 68 Verily they found their fathers gone astray. 69 So they hastily follow their footsteps! 70 And indeed before them, most of the former people went astray. 71 though We had sent among them warners. 72 and behold, how was the end of them that were warned, 73 Save single-minded slaves of Allah. 74
