Noah had called upon Us (earlier). See, how excellent We were in answering him! 75 We saved him and his people from great distress, 76 And made his seed the survivors, 77 And left for him [favorable mention] among later generations: 78 Salamun (peace) be upon Nuh (Noah) (from Us) among the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists)!" 79 Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good. 80 for he was truly one of our believing servants: 81 Then We drowned the others 82 ۞ Abraham was on the self-same way (as Noah). 83 He turned to his Lord with a sound heart 84 and when he said to his father and to his nation: 'What do you worship? 85 Do you want [to bow down before] a lie - [before] deities other than God? 86 What think you then of the Lord of all Being?' 87 Then he cast a glance at the stars, 88 And he said, "I am indeed sick (at heart)!" 89 So they turned away from him, and departed. 90 He turned to their gods and said, "Do you not eat? 91 What is wrong with you that you do not speak?" 92 Then he slipped unto them striking them with the right hand. 93 Then came the others to him hastening. 94 but he said, "How can you worship things you carve with your own hands, 95 While Allah created you and that which you do?" 96 They said: "Build for him a building (it is said that the building was like a furnace) and throw him into the blazing fire!" 97 (This failing), they then sought a stratagem against him, but We made them the ones most humiliated! 98 He said, "I will go to my Lord: He is sure to guide me. 99 My Lord! Vouchsafe me of the righteous. 100 And We gave him the glad tidings of a very gentle son (Ishmael). 101 When his son was old enough to work with him, he said, "My son, I have had a dream that I must sacrifice you. What do you think of this?" He replied, "Father, fulfill whatever you are commanded to do and you will find me patient, by the will of God". 102 When they had surrendered, and he flung him upon his brow, 103 We cried out: “O Abraham, 104 you have indeed fulfilled your dream. Thus do We reward the good-doers.” 105 That was indeed a trying test. 106 And We rescued him in exchange of a great sacrifice. (The sacrifice of Ibrahim and Ismail peace be upon them is commemorated every year on 10, 11 and 12 Zil Haj). 107 And We left for him (a goodly remembrance) among generations (to come) in later times. 108 Peace be unto Abraham! 109 Thus indeed do We reward the Muhsinun (good-doers - see V. 2:112). 110 He was one of Our believing worshipers. 111 And We gave him the good news of Ishaq, a prophet among the good ones. 112 We blessed him and Isaac: but of their progeny are (some) that do right, and (some) that obviously do wrong, to their own souls. 113
