And Jonah too was one of the Messengers. 139 When he ran away (like a slave from captivity) to the ship (fully) laden, 140 He (agreed to) cast lots, and he was among the losers, 141 [and they cast him into the sea,] whereupon the great fish swallowed him, for he had been blameworthy. 142 Now had he not been of those that glorify God, 143 He would have remained inside its belly until the Day they are resurrected. 144 ۞ We cast him out of the fish unto dry land and he was sick. 145 and We caused a pumpkin tree to grow over him. 146 And We sent him to [his people of] a hundred thousand or more. 147 And they believed, whrefore We let them enjoy life for a season. 148 So ask them for a pronouncement -- Has thy Lord daughters, and they sons? 149 Or did We create the angels as females while they were witnesses?" 150 Now surely it is of their own lie that they say: 151 'Allah has begotten' They are truly liars. 152 Hath He chosen daughters above sons? 153 “What is the matter with you? What sort of a judgement you impose!” 154 Will ye not then reflect? 155 Or have you received some clear authority? 156 Then bring your scripture, if what you say is true. 157 They link Him with jinns by lineage, yet the jinns know they will be brought before Him. 158 Hallowed be Allah from that which they ascribe to Him. 159 all of them except the chosen servants of Allah. 160 So, verily you (pagans) and those whom you worship (idols). 161 can lure away from God any 162 Except those who are predestined to burn in Hell! 163 The angels say, "Each of us has an appointed place. 164 we are the rangers, 165 We glorify God." 166 They say, 167 If we had the account of earlier people with us, 168 We would have been the chosen creatures of God." 169 Yet (now that it is come) they disbelieve therein; but they will come to know. 170 And Our word has already preceded for Our servants, the messengers, 171 that, verily, they - they indeed - would be succoured, 172 and that it is Our host that would certainly triumph. 173 So turn (away) from them for a while. 174 And watch, for they will (soon) see. 175 What! would they then hasten on Our chastisement? 176 When it comes down on their plains, it will be an evil dawn for those who had been warned. 177 And turn thou aside from them for a season. 178 And wait, for they will soon see. 179 Exaltations be to your Lord, the Lord of Might, above that they describe! 180 Peace be with the Messengers (of God). 181 And all praise to God, the Lord of all the worlds. 182
