We have not created the heavens and earth, and what between them is, for vanity; such is the thought of the unbelievers, wherefore woe unto the unbelievers because of the Fire! 27 shall We treat those who believe and do good works the same as those who spread corruption in the land; shall We treat the pious the same as the wicked? 28 A Book We have sent down to thee, Blessed, that men possessed of minds may ponder its signs and so remember. 29 We bestowed Solomon on David who was an excellent devotee, for he turned to God in penitence. 30 [and even] when, towards the close of day, nobly-bred, swift-footed steeds were brought before him, 31 he said, "My love of horses for the cause of God has made me continue watching them until sunset, thus making me miss my prayer". 32 (Then he said): Bring them back to me, and fell to slashing (with his sword their) legs and necks. 33 We tried Solomon by placing upon his throne a [lifeless] body; and thereupon he turned towards Us]. 34 Saying: "O Lord, forgive me, and give me such a dominion as none will merit after me. You are the great bestower." 35 Then We subjected the wind to his power, to flow gently to his order, Whithersoever he willed,- 36 And [also] the devils [of jinn] - every builder and diver 37 and others joined together by (iron) fetters. 38 This is Our gift, so bestow thou or withhold, without rendering an account. 39 And verily for him is an approach with Us, and a happy end. 40
