We have not created the heavens and earth, and what between them is, for vanity; such is the thought of the unbelievers, wherefore woe unto the unbelievers because of the Fire! 27 Shall We make those who believe and do good deeds equal to those who spread turmoil in the earth? Or shall We equate the pious with the disobedient? 28 This is a Book which We have sent down upon you, a blessed Book, for them to ponder upon its verses, and for men of intellect to accept advice. 29 And We gave unto David Solomon; how excellent a servant he was! He was a penitent. 30 [Mention] when there were exhibited before him in the afternoon the poised [standing] racehorses. 31 And he said: Lo! I have preferred the good things (of the world) to the remembrance of my Lord; till they were taken out of sight behind the curtain. 32 [He said], "Return them to me," and set about striking [their] legs and necks. 33 And We did try Solomon: We placed on his throne a body (without life); but he did turn (to Us in true devotion): 34 He said, "O my Lord! Forgive me, and grant me a kingdom which, (it may be), suits not another after me: for Thou art the Grantor of Bounties (without measure). 35 So We subjected the wind to him, so that it ran softly by his command wherever he wished; 36 And the unruly, every builder and diver (made We subservient), 37 And others bound together in shackles. 38 "This is Our gift," (We said to him), "so bestow freely or withhold without reckoning." 39 He has a high position with Us and an excellent abode. 40
