And indeed We sent Moosa along with Our signs towards Firaun and his chieftains – he therefore said, “Indeed I am a Noble Messenger of the Lord of the Creation.” 46 But when he brought them Our signs, at once they laughed at them. 47 And all the signs We showed them were always greater than the earlier ones; and We seized them with calamities, so that they may return. 48 And they said: magician! supplicate thy Lord for us for that which He hath covenanted with thee; verily we shall let ourselves be guided. 49 But when We removed from them the chastisement, lo! they broke the pledge. 50 And Fir'awn proclaimed among his people, saying: O my people! is not mine the dominion of Misr and witness yonder rivers flowing underneath me? See ye not? 51 Am I not better than this contemptible (man), who can scarcely make things clear (because of the impediment of his speech)? 52 and why have not armlets of gold been bestowed on him and why is there not a train of angels accompanying him?" 53 Thus, he made dimwits out of his people and they followed him. They, certainly, were a sinful people. When they invoked Our anger, 54 So when they angered Us, We punished them, and drowned them all. 55 And We made them a thing past, and an example for those after (them). 56
