Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Ha'. Mim. 1 By oath of this clear Book. 2 Verily We have sent it down on a blessed night, verily We were to become warners. 3 Therein is decreed every affair of wisdom 4 As commands from Us. It is indeed We who send (messengers), 5 A Mercy from your Lord, He is the Hearer, the Knower. 6 the Lord of the heavens and the earth and of all that is between them: if you would only have sure faith. 7 There is no god other than He, who gives you life and death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of old. 8 Nay! They play in doubt. 9 Therefore keep waiting for the day when the heaven shall bring an evident smoke, 10 That shall overtake men; this is a painful punishment. 11 Then they will say, "Lord, relieve us from this torment, for truly we are now believers in You." 12 But how will they avail themselves of the Reminder, when a clear Messenger had already come to them 13 whereupon they turned their backs on him and said, "Taught [by others] is he, a madman"? 14 Lo! We withdraw the torment a little. Lo! ye return (to disbelief). 15 The Day We will strike with the greatest assault, indeed, We will take retribution. 16 ۞ And before them We indeed tried the people of Firaun, and an Honourable Noble Messenger came to them. 17 (and said): “Deliver to me Allah's servants. I am a trustworthy Messenger to you, 18 Do not consider yourselves above God. I shall show you a manifest authority (in support of my truthfulness). 19 I have taken refuge in my Lord and your Lord against your stoning me to death. 20 And if you do not believe me, then leave me' 21 Then he called upon his Lord: “These are a criminal people.” 22 (His Lord answered): 'Set out with My worshipers in the night, for you will surely be followed. 23 And leave the sea becalmed; they are a drowned host.' 24 How many of the gardens and fountains have they left! 25 And the cornlands and the goodly sites 26 and the life of ease in which they took delight! 27 Thus (it was)! And We made other people inherit them (i.e. We made the Children of Israel to inherit the kingdom of Egypt). 28 Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they allowed any respite. 29
