Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 By the clear Book, 2 Surely We revealed it on a blessed night surely We are ever warning-- 3 On this night, every absolute command coming from Us becomes distinguishable. 4 [Every] matter [proceeding] from Us. Indeed, We were to send [a messenger] 5 as a mercy from thy Lord (surely He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing) 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if ye would be sure. 7 There is no deity save Him: He grants life and deals death: He is your Sustainer as well as the Sustainer of your forebears of old. 8 Nay, but they are in doubt, playing. 9 So be on the watch for a day when heaven shall bring a manifest smoke 10 Covering the people, this shall be a torment afflictive. 11 Thereupon they will say, “O our Lord! Remove the punishment from us – we now accept faith.” 12 How can there be for them an admonition (at the time when the torment has reached them), when a Messenger explaining things clearly has already come to them. 13 and they turned away, saying, "He is a trained and insane person". 14 We shall indeed remove the Penalty for a while, (but) truly ye will revert (to your ways). 15 But on that Day We will assault them most mightily, and then We shall revenge! 16 ۞ Indeed before that We subjected the Pharaonites to the same test. A noble Messenger came to them 17 saying, "Hand over God's servants to me. I am a trustworthy messenger for you. 18 and do not exalt yourselves in defiance of Allah. I have come to you with a clear authority (as a Messenger). 19 I have taken refuge in my Lord and your Lord against your stoning me to death. 20 And if you do not believe me, then leave me' 21 Then he supplicated to his Lord saying: 'These are sinful people' 22 [Allah said], "Then set out with My servants by night. Indeed, you are to be pursued. 23 "And leave the sea as it is (quiet and divided). Verily, They are a host to be drowned." 24 They left how many gardens and fountains, 25 And green crops (fields etc.) and goodly places, 26 And the comfort they enjoyed. 27 Such was their end, and what had been theirs We gave to other people to inherit. 28 And neither heaven nor earth shed a tear over them: nor were they given a respite (again). 29
