Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
HaMeem 1 By the Book that makes things clear, 2 that We have revealed the Quran on a blessed night to warn mankind. 3 (We revealed it on the Night) wherein every matter is wisely determined 4 By a command from Us – indeed it is We Who send. 5 A mercy from your Lord; indeed He only is the All Hearing, the All Knowing. 6 the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them - if you could but grasp it with inner certainty! 7 La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). It is He Who gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fore-fathers. 8 Nay, but they [who lack inner certainty] are but dying with their doubts. 9 Then watch for the Day when the sky will bring a visible smoke. 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful punishment. 11 "O Lord, take away this torment from us," (they will pray); "we have come to believe." 12 How can there be remembrance for them, when a messenger making plain (the Truth) had already come unto them, 13 Yet they turned their backs on him and said: One taught (by others), a madman. 14 Surely We will remove the punishment a little, (but) you will surely return (to evil). 15 on the Day when We shall seize [all sinners] with a most mighty onslaught, We shall, verily, inflict Our retribution [on you as well]! 16 ۞ And We had already tried before them the people of Pharaoh, and there came to them a noble messenger, 17 (saying:) 'Be obedient to me O worshipers of Allah. I am your honest Messenger. 18 Do not set yourselves above God: I bring you clear authority. 19 And indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me. 20 And if you do not believe in me, then leave me alone. 21 And he called to his Lord, saying, 'These are a sinful people.' 22 Then (his Lord commanded): Take away My slaves by night. Lo! ye will be followed, 23 "And leave the sea as a furrow (divided): for they are a host (destined) to be drowned." 24 How many gardens did they leave behind, and how many fountains 25 And fields and grand palaces! 26 And the comfort they enjoyed. 27 Thus it was; and We passed them on to another people. 28 And the heaven and the earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. 29
