Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 By the Book that makes things clear; 2 We have indeed sent it down in a blessed night – indeed it is We Who warn. 3 Therein every wise affair is made distinct, 4 by Our command. Verily, We were set to send a Messenger 5 A Mercy from your Lord, He is the Hearer, the Knower. 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you are certain (of your faith). 7 There is no god but He; He gives life and makes to die; your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 In fact, the unbelievers have doubts because of excessive involvement in worldly affairs. 9 Wait, then, for the Day when the sky brings forth plainly visible clouds of smoke. 10 which will smother the people. They will say, "This is a painful torment. 11 Thereupon they will say, “O our Lord! Remove the punishment from us – we now accept faith.” 12 How can there be for them an admonition (at the time when the torment has reached them), when a Messenger explaining things clearly has already come to them. 13 Yet they turned away from him and said: one tutored, one distraced. 14 Were We to ease the torment for a while, you would still revert to denial of the truth. 15 The day that We shall seize them with a grievous hold, We will indeed castigate them. 16 ۞ And We had already tried before them the people of Pharaoh, and there came to them a noble messenger, 17 (saying:) 'Be obedient to me O worshipers of Allah. I am your honest Messenger. 18 Do not consider yourselves above God. I shall show you a manifest authority (in support of my truthfulness). 19 I have taken refuge in my Lord and your Lord against your stoning me to death. 20 "If ye believe me not, at least keep yourselves away from me." 21 (But they were aggressive:) then he cried to his Lord: "These are indeed a people given to sin." 22 (Allah said): "Depart you with My slaves by night. Surely, you will be pursued. 23 And leave the sea becalmed; they are a drowned host.' 24 How many of gardens and springs do they [Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people] left. 25 and sown fields, fine sitting places, 26 and what prosperity they had rejoiced in! 27 We gave these as an inheritance to other people. 28 And neither heaven nor earth shed a tear over them: nor were they given a respite (again). 29
