Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Ha-Mim. 1 I swear by the illustrious Book. 2 We revealed it on a Blessed Night, for We were intent on warning; 3 therein every wise bidding 4 As a command from before Us. Verily We were to become senders: 5 A mercy from thy Lord. Lo! He, even He is the Hearer, the Knower, 6 Lord of the heavens and earth, and all that between them is if you have faith. 7 There is no god but He; He gives life and makes to die; your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 Nay! They play in doubt. 9 So be on the watch for a day when heaven shall bring a manifest smoke 10 engulfing the people; this will be a painful punishment. 11 Our Lord! remove from us the torment, verily we shall become believers. 12 How should they have the Reminder, seeing a clear Messenger already came to them, 13 and they turned away, saying, "He is a trained and insane person". 14 If We remove the torment a little, you revert back (to misdeeds). 15 Upon the day when We shall assault most mightily, then We shall take Our vengeance. 16 ۞ We did, before them, try the people of Pharaoh: there came to them a messenger most honourable, 17 Saying: restore to me the bondmen of Allah, verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 18 "And exalt not yourselves against God: for, verily, I come unto you with a manifest authority [from Him]; 19 “And I take the refuge of my Lord and yours, against your stoning me.” 20 If you do not want to believe, leave me alone". 21 And [finally] he called to his Lord that these were a criminal people. 22 [Allah said], "Then set out with My servants by night. Indeed, you are to be pursued. 23 And leave thou the sea divided: verily they are a host to be drowned. 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 sown fields, and how noble a station, 26 And pleasant things wherein they took delight! 27 We gave these as an inheritance to other people. 28 Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they allowed any respite. 29
