Has the story of Abraham's honoured guests come to you? 24 When they entered upon him and said, "[We greet you with] peace." He answered, "[And upon you] peace, [you are] a people unknown. 25 He went quietly to his wife and returned to his guests with a fat, roasted calf. 26 and placed it before them. "Will you not eat?" he said, 27 Then he conceived a fear about them, and they said: 'Have no fear', and gave him the glad tidings that he was to have a knowledgeable son. 28 His wife came forward, crying and beating her face, saying, "I am an old barren woman!" 29 They said: "Thus said your Lord. He is indeed all-wise and all-knowing." 30 ۞ Said [Abraham]: "And what [else] may you have in view, O you [heavenly] messengers?" 31 They replied, "We have been sent to a sinful people 32 "To bring on, on them, (a shower of) stones of clay (brimstone), 33 Marked by thy Lord for (the destruction of) the wanton. 34 We saved the believers among them, 35 But We found not there any just (Muslim) persons except in one house: 36 And so We left therein a message for those who fear the grievous suffering [which awaits all evildoers]. 37 And in Musa also was a lesson, when We sent him unto Fir'awn with authority manifest. 38 But he turned his back, he and his courtiers, and said, "This is a sorcerer or a madman." 39 So We took him and his soldiers and cast them into the sea, and he was blameworthy. 40 And in Ad: When We sent upon them the destructive wind. 41 and it destroyed everything over which it passed and reduced it to dust. 42 There is also evidence (of the Truth) in the story of the Thamud, who were told to enjoy themselves for an appointed time. 43 In response they rebelled against their Lord’s command, so the thunderbolt seized them whilst they were watching. 44 for they were unable even to rise, and could not defend themselves. 45 So were the People of Noah before them for they wickedly transgressed. 46
