The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Mount; 1 And [by] a Book inscribed 2 on parchment for distribution, 3 By the much-frequented Fane; 4 And the elevated canopy 5 And the swollen sea, 6 surely, the punishment of your Lord is about to come, 7 Of it there is no preventer. 8 On the Day the heaven will sway with circular motion 9 And the mountains will fly hither and thither. 10 Then woe that Day to those that treat (Truth) as Falsehood;- 11 Who play in talk of grave matters; 12 On the Day whereon they will be pushed into Hell-Fire with a dreadful push. 13 (And it is said unto them): This is the Fire which ye were wont to deny. 14 Is this magic or do you not see? 15 “Enter it – now whether you patiently bear it or are impatient – it is the same for you; for you is a recompense only for what you used to do.” 16 Surely the godfearing shall be in gardens and bliss, 17 Happy because of what their Lord hath given them, and (because) their Lord hath warded off from them the torment of hell-fire. 18 Eat and drink pleasantly for what you did, 19 The God-fearing shall be reclining on couches facing each other, and We shall wed them to maidens with large, beautiful eyes. 20 And those who believed, and whose progeny also followed them in their faith, will be united with their offspring. We will not deprive them of their labour in the least. Every man is bound to what he does. 21 We shall give them fruits and meat as they desire. 22 and in that [paradise] they shall pass on to one another a cup which will not give rise to empty talk, and neither incite to sin. 23 ۞ And their boy servants shall go around them, as if they were pearls, safely hidden. 24 And some of them shall advance towards others questioning each other. 25 Saying, “Indeed before this, we were in our houses, worried.” 26 But Allah has been gracious to us and He has saved us from the punishment of the hot wind: 27 before this, we used to pray to Him. Surely, He is the Beneficent, the Merciful." 28
