The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I swear by the Mountain, 1 and a Book inscribed 2 In parchment unrolled. 3 The house ever-peopled, 4 and by the lofty vault of the sky, 5 and by the swelling ocean, 6 the torment of your Lord will inevitably take place 7 There is none can avert it;- 8 (It shall come to pass) on the Day when the heaven will convulse in a great convulsion, 9 And the mountains will pass on, departing - 10 Will be the day of woe for those 11 all those who [throughout their lives] but idly played with things vain 12 The day they are dragged and pushed into Hell, 13 This is the Fire which you used to belie. 14 Is it magic then or do you not see? 15 [Enter to] burn therein; then be patient or impatient - it is all the same for you. You are only being recompensed [for] what you used to do." 16 Surely the God-fearing shall be in Gardens and bliss, 17 Rejoicing because of what their Lord gave them, and their Lord saved them from the punishment of the burning fire. 18 “Eat and drink with pleasure, a reward for what you used to do.” 19 (They shall be) reclining on couches ranged in rows and We shall wed them to houris (virgins of Paradise) with large wide eyes. 20 And as for those who have attained to faith and whose offspring will have followed them in faith, We shall unite them with their offspring; and We shall not let aught of their deeds go to waste: [but] every human being will be held in pledge for whatever he has earned. 21 We shall provide them in abundance with such fruit and meat as they desire. 22 while they pass therein a cup one to another wherein is no idle talk, no cause of sin, 23 ۞ They will be served by youths who will be as beautiful as pearls. 24 And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. 25 They will say: “When we were living before among our kinsfolk we lived in constant fear (of Allah's displeasure). 26 But Allah hath been gracious unto us and hath preserved us from the torment of the breath of Fire. 27 before this, we used to pray to Him. Surely, He is the Beneficent, the Merciful." 28
