The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, 1 And a Scripture inscribed 2 on wide-open scrolls. 3 By the House Frequented. 4 by the elevated canopy; 5 By the sea overflowing. 6 Indeed your Lord’s punishment will surely take place. 7 there is none to prevent it. 8 On the day when the heavens will swiftly fly 9 The mountains move and fly away, 10 Woe on that Day to those who deny the truth, 11 Who are playing in falsehood. 12 The day they are dragged and pushed into Hell, 13 (it will be said to them): 'This is the Fire which you belied! 14 Is it magic or do you not still see? 15 Burn in its heat. It is all the same for you whether you exercise patience or not; This is the recompense for your deeds". 16 Surely the godfearing shall be in gardens and bliss, 17 rejoicing in all that their Sustainer will have granted them: for their Sustainer will have warded off from them all suffering through the blazing fire. 18 They will be told, "Eat and drink to your heart's delight for what you have done". 19 Reclining on thrones set in lines, and We will unite them to large-eyed beautiful ones. 20 We shall unite the believers with those descendants of theirs who followed them in their faith, and shall not deny them any part of the reward for their good deeds. Every person is pledged to what he did. 21 We shall give them fruits and meats, and what they desire. 22 There, they shall pass from hand to hand a cup which does not lead to any idle talk or sin. 23 ۞ They will be waited upon by immortal youths, like pearls hidden in their shells. 24 They will converse with one another, putting questions to each other, 25 They will say: "Behold, aforetime - when we were [still living] in the midst of our kith and kin - we were full of fear [at the thought of God's displeasure]: 26 "But Allah has been good to us, and has delivered us from the Penalty of the Scorching Wind. 27 Indeed, we used to supplicate Him before. Indeed, it is He who is the Beneficent, the Merciful." 28
