The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Mount 1 By a Decree inscribed 2 In parchment unrolled. 3 by the established House (Mecca), 4 Consider the vault [of heaven] raised high! 5 and the sea swarming, 6 Verily the torment of thine Lord is sure to befalls 7 there is none to prevent it. 8 The day the sky will tremble, 9 The mountains move and fly away, 10 Woe, then, on that Day to all who give the lie to the truth 11 those who are in plunging, playing. 12 on that Day they shall be ruthlessly thrust into the Fire of Hell. 13 This is the fire which you used to deny. 14 Is this magic, or is it that you do not see? 15 Endure the heat thereof, and whether ye are patient of it or impatient of it is all one for you. Ye are only being paid for what ye used to do. 16 Surely those who guard (against evil) shall be in gardens and bliss 17 talking of what they have received from their Lord and of how their Lord has saved them from the torment of hell. 18 'Eat and drink, with wholesome appetite, for that you were working. 19 Reclining upon couches ranged in rows; and We shall espouse them to wide-eyed houris. 20 And those who believed, and their seed followed them in belief, We shall join their seed with them, and We shall not defraud them of aught of their work; every man shall be pledged for what he earned. 21 And We shall increasingly give them fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 There they shall pass from hand to hand a (wine) cup, free from any Laghw (dirty, false, evil vague talk between them), and free from sin (because it will be legal for them to drink). 23 ۞ They will be served by youths who will be as beautiful as pearls. 24 And they will advance unto each other asking questions. 25 They will say, "Indeed, we were previously among our people fearful [of displeasing Allah]. 26 "But Allah has been gracious to us, and has saved us from the torment of the Fire. 27 before this, we used to pray to Him. Surely, He is the Beneficent, the Merciful." 28
