The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the Star when it setteth, 1 Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled. 2 nor does he speak out of desire. 3 It is no less than inspiration sent down to him: 4 The Lord of Mighty Power has taught him, 5 One strong of make. Then he stood straight. 6 being on the higher horizon, 7 Then he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] approached and came closer, 8 he was but two bows' length or even nearer, 9 and revealed to God's servant what he revealed. 10 The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth? 12 And indeed, he saw him a second time 13 by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, 14 Nigh thereto is the Garden of Abode. 15 When that which covers covered the lote-tree; 16 The sight did not shift, nor did it cross the limits. 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you ever thought about al-Lat and al-Uzza, 19 and, another, the third manat? 20 Is the male for you and for Him the female? 21 That is indeed an unfair division! 22 These are nothing but names which ye have devised,- ye and your fathers,- for which Allah has sent down no authority (whatever). They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own souls desire!- Even though there has already come to them Guidance from their Lord! 23 Shall man have whatsoever he wisheth for! 24 Allah's is the last and the first. 25
