The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the star when it descends, 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he misguided, 2 Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. 3 Indeed it is not except a Revelation which is revealed, 4 Bestowed on him by the Supreme Intellect, 5 Of might, he (Gabriel) stood firm 6 And reached the highest pinnacle. 7 then drew near and suspended hung, 8 And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer; 9 so (Allah) revealed to His worshiper (Gabriel) that which he revealed (to Prophet Muhammad). 10 The heart [of the Prophet] did not misconstrue what he saw. 11 So will you dispute with him over what he saw? 12 Indeed, he saw him in another descent 13 by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, 14 Near it is the Garden of Abode. 15 When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it]. 16 his eyes did not swerve, nor did they stray 17 Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 So did you observe the idols Lat and Uzza? 19 and Manat the third, the other? 20 Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 But to Allah belongs the last (Hereafter) and the first (the world). 25
