The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Star when it goes down,- 1 Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived; 2 Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. 3 It is but a revelation revealed. 4 He has been taught by the Extremely Powerful. 5 One vigorous; and he grew clear to view 6 While he was in the highest part of the horizon: 7 Then the Spectacle became closer, and came down in full view. 8 Till he was (distant) two bows' length or even nearer, 9 He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. 10 His heart lies not of what he saw; 11 will you, then, contend with him as to what he saw? 12 And indeed he (Muhammad SAW) saw him [Jibrael (Gabriel)] at a second descent (i.e. another time). 13 by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, 14 Near it is the Garden of Abode. 15 When the lote-tree was being enveloped, by whatever around it. 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 for indeed he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 HAVE YOU, then, ever considered [what you are worshipping in] Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, 19 And Manat (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third? 20 What! unto you the males and unto Him the females? 21 That indeed is an unfair division -- 22 These are nothing but names which ye have devised,- ye and your fathers,- for which Allah has sent down no authority (whatever). They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own souls desire!- Even though there has already come to them Guidance from their Lord! 23 Does man imagine that whatever he wishes for is right for him? 24 And to God belongs the First and the Last. 25
