The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the declining star, 1 Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled. 2 nor speaks he out of caprice. 3 This is naught but a revelation revealed, 4 Taught to him by one intense in strength - 5 Lord of power and wisdom. So he acquired poise and balance, 6 appearing in the horizon's loftiest part, 7 Then he drew near and drew closer 8 And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. 9 He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. 10 The heart lied not in that which he saw. 11 Will ye therefore dispute with him concerning that which he hath seen? 12 Indeed, he saw him in another descent 13 by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, 14 Near it is the Garden of Abode. 15 with the lote-tree veiled in a veil of nameless splendour 16 his eye swerved not; nor swept astray. 17 Verily he saw one of the greater revelations of his Lord. 18 Have ye thought upon Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza 19 And Manat the other third? 20 Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? 21 Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair! 22 They are not but [mere] names you have named them - you and your forefathers - for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow not except assumption and what [their] souls desire, and there has already come to them from their Lord guidance. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 Rather, to Allah belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 25
