The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the star when it setteth. 1 Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. 2 And he speaketh not of his own desire. 3 It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired, 4 something that a very powerful one has imparted to him, 5 One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form 6 while he was in the highest horizon; 7 and then drew near, and came close, 8 Till he was (distant) two bows' length or even nearer, 9 so (Allah) revealed to His worshiper (Gabriel) that which he revealed (to Prophet Muhammad). 10 The heart was not untrue in (making him see) what he saw. 11 What! do you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 And indeed he did see the Spectacle again. 13 by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, 14 Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, 15 Behold, the Lote-tree was shrouded (in mystery unspeakable!) 16 his eyes did not swerve, nor did they stray 17 truly did he see some of the most profound of his Sustainer's symbols. 18 (Can anything as such be considered true) of al-Lat, al-Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third, the last? 20 What, have you males, and He females! 21 That, then, is an unjust division. 22 They are not but [mere] names you have named them - you and your forefathers - for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow not except assumption and what [their] souls desire, and there has already come to them from their Lord guidance. 23 Is the human to have whatever he fancies? 24 Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). 25
