The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the declining star, 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he deluded; 2 Nor does he speak out of desire. 3 It is but a revelation revealed. 4 taught him by one terrible in power, 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 While he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 He (Gabriel) then came nearer and nearer. 8 And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer; 9 And thus did [God] reveal unto His servant whatever He deemed right to reveal. 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 So will you dispute with him over what he saw? 12 Indeed he saw him a second time, 13 Near Sidrat-ul-Muntaha [lote-tree of the utmost boundary (beyond which none can pass)], 14 Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, 15 when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; 16 His sight did not waver nor was it unduly bold. 17 Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 HAVE YOU, then, ever considered [what you are worshipping in] Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, 19 And subsequently the third, the Manat? 20 Is the male for you and for Him the female? 21 That indeed is a division most unfair! 22 They are but names, named by you and your fathers. Allah has not sent down any authority for them. They follow conjecture and their soul's desire, eventhough the guidance of their Lord has come to them. 23 Or is there for man whatever he wishes? 24 To Allah belongs the Eternal life and the first life. 25
