The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the declining star, 1 Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. 2 Neither does he speak of his own will. 3 It is but a divine revelation, which is revealed to him. 4 Taught to him by one intense in strength - 5 One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form 6 While he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he approached and descended 8 two bows' length away, or nearer, 9 So Allah divinely revealed to His bondman, whatever He divinely revealed. 10 The heart [of the Prophet] did not misconstrue what he saw. 11 will you, then, contend with him as to what he saw? 12 And certainly he saw him descend a second time: 13 at the Lote Tree (Sidrat tree) of the ending 14 Nigh thereto is the Garden of Abode. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which did cover it! 16 The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. 17 He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 HAVE YOU, then, ever considered [what you are worshipping in] Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, 19 as well as [in] Manat, the third and last [of this triad]? 20 Is the male for you and for Him the female? 21 That indeed were an unfair division! 22 They are naught but names which you have named, you and your fathers; Allah has not sent for them any authority. They follow naught but conjecture and the low desires which (their) souls incline to; and certainly the guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Or is there for man whatever he wishes? 24 To God belong the End and the Beginning. 25
