The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read with the name of your Lord Who created, 1 Created man from a clinging substance. 2 Recite thou: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 who, by the pen, taught the human being: 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay! Verily, man does transgress all bounds (in disbelief and evil deed, etc.). 6 Because he sees himself self-sufficient. 7 Surely! Unto your Lord is the return. 8 What do you think? Have you seen he who forbids 9 A votary when he turns to his devotions? 10 What will happen if the praying person is rightly guided 11 Or enjoineth piety? 12 What is your opinion – if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state! 13 Knoweth he not that Allah beholdeth? 14 Nay, if he desist not, We shall most surely drag him down upon his forehead 15 his lying sinful forelock. 16 So, let him call upon his way! 17 [the while] We shall summon the forces of heavenly chastisement! 18 Nay, Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah). ۩ 19
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
