The Moon (Al-Qamar)
55 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Comet (Al-Taareq) before S (Saad)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The Hour hath drawn nigh, and the moon hath been rent in sunder. 1 But if they [who reject all thought of the Last Hour] were to see a sign [of its approach,] they would turn aside and say: "An ever-recurring delusion!" 2 They have rejected it and have followed their own desires, but all matters will be settled (by God). 3 And there have come to them such tidings as contain a deterrent -- 4 profound in wisdom, but all warnings have been of no avail: 5 So turn thou away from them. Upon the day when the Caller shall call unto a horrible thing, 6 with downcast eyes they shall come out of their graves, as if they were locusts milling about 7 running in confusion towards the Summoning Voice; [and] those who [now] deny the truth will exclaim, "Calamitous is this Day!" 8 ۞ Before them the people of Nuh rejected, so they rejected Our servant and called (him) mad, and he was driven away. 9 Then he invoked his Lord (saying): "I have been overcome, so help (me)!" 10 Thereupon We opened the gates of the sky for water to pour down, 11 And We caused the earth to gush forth with springs, so the waters met (and rose) to the extent decreed. 12 We carried him, (Noah), on a vessel built with boards fixed together with nails, 13 Moving forward under Our eyes: a requital for him who had been rejected. 14 And indeed, We have caused such [floating vessels] to remain forever a sign [of Our grace unto man]: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 15 Then how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 16 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 17 The people of `Ad rejected Our guidance. How terrible was My torment and the result (of their disregard) of My warning. 18 We loosed against them a wind clamorous in a day of ill fortune continuous, 19 It swept people away as if they were trunks of uprooted palm trees. 20 And how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 21 And certainly We have made the Quran easy for remembrance, but is there anyone who will mind? 22
