The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
96 verses, revealed in Mecca after T H (Taa Haa) before The Poets (Alshu'araa')
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 there is no denying its coming 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken violently, 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 On studded thrones. 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated - 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 and banana trees, 29 and spreading shade 30 Gushing water, 31 and fruits abounding 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 And have made them virgins. 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 for the Companions of the Right 38
