The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 And you become [of] three kinds: 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 Companions of the Left, what are the Companions of the Left? 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 A [large] company of the former peoples 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 On studded thrones. 15 Reclining face to face. 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 And those on the Right Hand, Who will be those on the Right Hand? 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 and banana trees, 29 and continuous shade, 30 Gushing water, 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 And made them virginal, 36 loving and of equal age. 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
