The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be! 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 a host of the ancients 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 And those on the Right Hand, Who will be those on the Right Hand? 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 and spreading shade 30 And water poured out 31 And fruit abundant. 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 and We made them spotless virgins, 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
