The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 there is no denying its coming 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 [on that Day] you shall be divided into three groups. 7 So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes, 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 and waters gushing, 31 and fruit abounding, 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 and raised couches 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 And made them virgins, 36 Lovers, friends, 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
