The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 The Companions of the Right 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 and amid the extended shade 30 And water gushing, 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 And carpets raised. 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 And made them virginal, 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
