The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Event will come to pass 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 You will become three categories: 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 and a few from later times. 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 And shade extended 30 Gushing water, 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 Then We have made them virgins, 36 Lovers, friends, 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
