Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah)
52 verses, revealed in Mecca after Kingship (Al-Mulk) before The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ The Inevitable Calamity! 1 And what is that indubitable event? 2 And what do you know what that indubitable event is? 3 The Thamud and the Ad denied the (possibility of a) sudden calamity, calling it false. 4 So destroyed were the Thamud by a storm of thunder and lightning; 5 and as for Ad, they were destroyed by a wind clamorous, 6 which God let loose against them for seven nights and eight days unremittingly, so that you could have seen its people lying prostrate as though they were the hollow trunks of palm-trees which had fallen down. 7 Canst thou (O Muhammad) see any remnant of them? 8 And there came Pharaoh and those before him and the overturned cities with sin. 9 They did not follow the Messenger of their Lord, and so He seized them with a severe grip. 10 But We bore you away in the Ark, when the waters rose high, 11 That We might make it a memorial for you, and that remembering ears (that heard the story) might remember. 12 Then, when one blast is sounded on the Trumpet, 13 And the earth and the mountains shall be borne and the twain shall be crushed with a single crash. 14 Then on that Day shall happen the Event. 15 and the sky will be rent asunder - for, frail will it have become on that Day; 16 And the angels will be on the sides thereof, and eight will uphold the Throne of thy Lord that day, above them. 17 On that Day you shall be brought to judgment: not [even] the most hidden of your deeds will remain hidden. 18 Then as to him who will be vouchsafed his book in his right hand, he shall say: here! read my book! 19 Certainly I thought that I should encounter my reckoning.' 20 And so he will find himself in a happy state of life, 21 In a high garden 22 with its fruits within easy reach. 23 We shall say to him, "Eat and drink joyfully as a reward for the good deeds you did in days gone by." 24 But whosoever gets his ledger in his left hand, will say: "Would that I were never given my ledger, 25 and neither known this my account! 26 O would that it had made an end (of me): 27 My wealth hath not availed me, 28 There hath perished from me my authority. 29 (It will be said): Take him and fetter him 30 and then let him enter Hell. 31 then fasten him with a chain, seventy cubits long. 32 Surely he did not believe in Allah, the Great, 33 And urged not on the feeding of the wretched. 34 So no friend has he here this Day, 35 Nor any food save filth 36 Which none but the wrongdoers eat. 37
