The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
A caller supplicated about a punishment to fall on 1 for the unbelievers, which none may avert, 2 a chastisement from Allah, the Lord of the ascending steps, 3 The angels and the Ruh [Jibrael (Gabriel)] ascend to Him in a Day the measure whereof is fifty thousand years, 4 Therefore endure with a goodly patience. 5 They see it [the Day of Judgement] to be far off, 6 Whereas We see it impending. 7 The day when the sky will be like molten silver. 8 And the mountains shall be as tufts of wool 9 And no friend will ask [anything of] a friend, 10 They will be shown each other. The criminal will wish that he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day by his children 11 And his wife and his brother 12 And the family in which he was. 13 and all persons of the earth, if only he could thus save himself. 14 By no means! For the raging flames of the fire 15 A remover of exteriors. 16 It invites he who turned his back [on truth] and went away [from obedience] 17 And accumulated wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Verily, man (disbeliever) was created very impatient; 19 when evil visits him, impatient, 20 And refraining, when good reaches him. 21 Save worshippers. 22 who are steadfast in prayer; 23 And in whose wealth there is a right acknowledged 24 For those who beg, and for the needy who cannot even ask. 25 And those who accept the truth of the judgment day 26 and go in fear of the punishment of their Lord, 27 Indeed, the punishment of their Lord is not that from which one is safe - 28 and who are mindful of their chastity, 29 Save in regard to their spouses or those whom their right hands own; so verily they are not blameworthy 30 But those who trespass beyond this are transgressors;- 31 who honor their trust and promises, 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies; 33 And those who guard their Salat (prayers) well. 34 They will live in gardens with honour. 35
