The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
A requester seeks the punishment that will take place – 1 The Unbelievers, the which there is none to ward off,- 2 (A punishment) from Allah, the Owner of the Elevated Passages. 3 Whereby the angels ascend unto Him and also the spirit, On a Day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. 4 Wherefore be thou patient with a becoming patience. 5 Surely they think it to be far off, 6 but We see it to be very near. 7 The day the sky becomes like molten brass, 8 and the mountains will be like tufts of wool, 9 And no friend will ask of a friend, 10 although they shall be within sight of one another. The guilty one would fain ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his children, 11 his companion (wife), his brother, 12 And his kindred who sheltered him, 13 and of whoever [else] lives on earth, all of them - so that he could but save himself. 14 But nay! for lo! it is the fire of hell 15 It snatches away by the scalps, 16 It shall insistently summon him who turned his back and retreated, 17 and amassed (riches) and hoarded. 18 ۞ Surely man is created of a hasty temperament 19 Fretful when evil touches him; 20 but when they are fortunate, they become niggardly 21 save those that pray 22 Who are constant at their worship 23 those in whose wealth is a right known 24 For those who beg, and for the needy who cannot even ask. 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgment, 26 and are fearful of the punishment of their Lord; 27 Surely no one can be secure from the punishment of his Lord, -- 28 And those who guard their chastity, 29 Except with their wives and the bondwomen in their possession, for there is no reproach on them. 30 But whoso seeketh more than that, those are they who are transgressors; 31 And those who fulfil their trusts and covenants, 32 Who uphold their testimonies, 33 And those who are attentive at their worship. 34 Those shall dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
