The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
A questioner questioned concerning the doom about to fall 1 the unbelievers which none can prevent. 2 No one can defend him against God, the Lord of the exalted positions. 3 The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years. 4 So be patient (O Muhammad SAW), with a good patience. 5 They think that it (the Day of Judgment) is far away. 6 while We think that it is near at hand. 7 It shall befall on a Day whereon the sky will become like molten brass, 8 And the hills will be light as wool. 9 and no bosom friend will enquire about any of his bosom friends 10 Though they shall be made to see one another. Fain would the guilty ransom himself from the torment of that Day by his children. 11 And his wife and his brother, 12 And his family who had stood by him, 13 and whosoever is in the earth, all together, so that then it might deliver him. 14 But nay! for lo! it is the fire of hell 15 stripping away his skin, 16 It calls out to him who reverted and turned away. 17 And collect (wealth) and hide it (from use)! 18 ۞ VERILY, man is born with a restless disposition. 19 If evil befalls him he is perturbed; 20 And, when good befalleth him, grudging; 21 except those who are steadfast 22 who are constant in prayer; 23 And in whose wealth there is a right acknowledged 24 For the beggar who asks, and for the unlucky who has lost his property and wealth, (and his means of living has been straitened); 25 those who firmly believe in the Day of Recompense, 26 who are afraid of the torment of their Lord, 27 Verily! The torment of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure, 28 And those who guard their private parts, 29 except from their wives and what their right hands own, for these they are not blameworthy. 30 whereas such as seek to go beyond that [limit] are truly transgressors; 31 and those who fulfil their trusts and their covenants, 32 who testify to what they have witnessed, 33 And those who [carefully] maintain their prayer: 34 Those shall be in Gardens, high-honoured. 35
