The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
A caller supplicated about a punishment to fall on 1 The infidels, of which there is no averter. 2 From God, the Lord of the steps (of progression), 3 The angels and the spirit ascend unto him in a Day the measure whereof is (as) fifty thousand years: 4 So be thou patient with a sweet patience; 5 They see the (Day) indeed as a far-off (event): 6 but We see it to be very near. 7 On that Day the heaven shall become like molten copper, 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 and no friend will ask about his friend, 10 though they shall be within sight of each other. The guilty one will gladly ransom himself from the torment of that Day by sacrificing his own children, 11 and of his spouse, and of his brother, 12 his kin who sheltered him, 13 and of whoever [else] lives on earth, all of them - so that he could but save himself. 14 But nay! for lo! it is the fire of hell 15 stripping away his skin, 16 and it shall call him who withdrew and turned his back 17 And masseth and then hoardeth. 18 ۞ Verily man is impatient by nature: 19 Fretful when evil touches him; 20 when good visits him, grudging, 21 except those who are steadfast 22 [and] who incessantly persevere in their prayer 23 And those within whose wealth is a known right 24 For the petitioner and the deprived - 25 and those who believe in the Day of Judgement 26 And those who fear the torment of their Lord, 27 for none may ever feel secure from the punishment of their Lord; 28 And those who protect their private organs (from adultery). 29 Except with their wives and the bondwomen in their possession, for there is no reproach on them. 30 whereas such as seek to go beyond that [limit] are truly transgressors; 31 And those who of their trusts and their covenant are keepers. 32 And those who are upright in their testimonies, 33 And those who guard their Salat (prayers) well. 34 Such will be the honoured ones in the Gardens (of Bliss). 35
